Just a few quick news points. Chivas USA have reached the halfway point of the preseason, and tomorrow they will play the Chicago Fire in a preseason match at Oxnard College. The match is open to the public, and the club's website says the match will begin at 12 pm. If you are so inclined, take a drive and check it out!
According to Scott French on twitter, the club has released several players. Trialist Kennedy Chongo, who played for Biola University and the Southern California Seahorses in the USL-PDL, was released, as well as 2012 Supplemental Draftees Daniel Steres (San Diego State) and Kevin Venegas (CSU-Fullerton). French also noted that Venegas was already back with his USL-Pro team, the LA Blues, on Friday. Although the cuts were surely disappointing for the three, they will have chances in the lower leagues and even potentially other MLS clubs. Meanwhile, for Chivas, the roster is closer to being set heading into the season.
One more item: the competition for the third goalkeeper on the roster has been fierce, and one more name needs to be added to the mix: Carl Woszczynski. On February 7 he confirmed to a Chicago Fire blogger on twitter that he was on trial with Chivas. He formerly played collegiately for UAB. No word on if he was just brought in for a couple of days, or if they will take a longer look at him.
