ELAC's Two Centavos

Editor's Note: We're happy to welcome a new writer to The Goat Parade, John Sandate, better known to folks around Chivas USA as ELAC. John will be a columnist of sorts for the site, contributing his observations surrounding the team and the league from time to time. Here's his first installment:

You ever been to the edge of something so great and then, poof! It's all gone. Like the time you were in third grade and you thought the prettiest girl in class would give you a valentine or when you open Christmas presents and realize all you got were socks, pajamas, and a sweatshirt.

Well, this is your 2012 Chivas USA season recap.
Last night, the LA Goats played toe to toe with the best team in the league, Sporting Kansas City, and came out 1-0 losers. Again. I mean, the defense played tough and the midfield broke countless plays. Awesome, right! Not so much, in essence, Chivas USA parked it's red and white bus and forced SKC to play a rough, boring game. Imagination? No. Creativity? No. Tackles? Oh, yeah. Solid goalkeeping? Of course! Dan Kennedy has made everyone erase the memory of Goat legend Brad Guzan, and reminded everyone that Zach Thornton was never the answer. If not for "Danny Boy", the goats would be dead. A 1-3 record would easily be 0-4, if not for the UC Santa Barbara grad. Speaking of Santa Barbara, that would have been a nice place to be instead of the Home Depot Center on Sunday night. The stadium looked and worse, felt empty. No soul empty. When all you hear are supporters groups yelling, chanting and banging drums, then its time to look what's going wrong with attendance. It's the same old faces in the stands, just less of them. Once again, a 1-3 record can hurt in more ways than one.

As for the game, well if you like boring soccer with no fun, this game was for you! I'm not ready to pull the plug on head honcho Robin Fraser's project, but the reality is we don't have the players for this vaunted 4-5-1. Juan Pablo Angel is out. So that hurts. Ben Zemanski, clearly better than retread jerk, Peter Vagenas, was on the bench when his passing, defense, and energy were clearly needed. I don't want to throw Fraser under the bus, but we can't just park it in front of Kennedy's post AND expect to win.

So for now, we'll have to wait for the next game to see if progress is being made. For the sake of this season, I hope so. If not, I'll just catch the 2013 season bus.
