GELSENKIRCHEN, GERMANY - AUGUST 28: (FILE PHOTO) Raul: Indeed signs with Qatari club (Photo by Friedemann Vogel/Bongarts/Getty Images)
If you were looking forward to Raul becoming a Chivas USA player, well, it's not happening in 2012. Qatari team Al-Sadd have announced on their website that the Spanish forward will be revealed in a press conference today. Reports coming out of the deal also apparently include a future role as an soccer ambassador, important considering Qatar's short soccer history and the fact they are on deck to host the 2022 World Cup.
Despite Qatar's short history in the sport, Al-Sadd won the 2011 Asian Champions League title, and have a couple other prominent players, including Mamadou Niang (a Senegal international), Abdul Kader Keita (Ivory Coast international), and Nadir Belhadj (a former Algerian international). Still, it is safe to say Raul will be the biggest name on the squad, and after a two-year stint with Schalke in Germany, he likely has more goals in him.
And while I did not figure Raul would be coming to MLS or Chivas, I know some folks were hoping against hope he'd be a Goat. The quest to sign a (quality) big name player by Chivas USA continues...
