In the latest round of the SB Nation Power Rankings, now available, Chivas USA have moved up two places to 12th. Coming off a week in which they got two draws to two good teams, the New York Red Bulls (ranked 6th this week) and the Seattle Sounders (ranked 3rd this week), the Goats are turning a few heads and steadily climbing up the rankings. I should also note that the current position is commensurate with their overall table position, which is also 12th, so there's a nice symmetry to the assessment.
Just ahead of Chivas in the rankings are the Columbus Crew and Chicago Fire, two inconsistent teams who could get on a run and make a move up the rankings themselves, or struggle and provide Chivas with space to move up further. This is of course contingent on Chivas actually playing well themselves. Two teams who gave Chivas room to move up were FC Dallas (now 17th, 13th last week) and the LA Galaxy (now 16th, 12th last week). I count myself among those who thought these teams would snap out of slumps, but there's no evidence at this point to indicate any improvement, so down they go.
