Guzan Not, Repeat NOT, Coming to Chivas

Dan Kennedy fresh off his first All-Star game must've been wondering what was going on when he began hearing rumors of Aston Villa goalkeeper (and former Chivas USA player to boot) Brad Guzan was coming to the United States for a six month loan.

I'm not sure how the rumor got started--but we can say with complete confidence that this rumor is false. Guzman is staying put and likewise so are Kennedy and Tim Melia.

Writer "J.P. Fear" of vitalastonvilla puts the kibbutz:

"I`ve just spoken to someone at the Club. He said they are totally mystified where this story started and why. He re-signed at Villa as competition for Shay Given. He`d not make very good competition if he was in the States."

The timing was suspicious, not only because of Kennedy's accolades but because Guzman had recently signed a new contract with the team he had been part of for the last four years. New manager Paul Lambert has been high on which encouraged the American to sign a new three-year deal to remain with the team just a few weeks ago. Lambert might be giving the inside edge to last year's number one goalkeeper Shay Given, but he fully intends to allow Guzan to be given the chance to earn the right to play for the top job.

Meanwhile Aston Villa have, like many other top English clubs, have embarked on an American tour having beat the Philadelphia Union (Guzan started and earned a shutout) and a 2-2 PK win in Portland.
