We're getting close to another Chivas USA match, but before we turn our attention to the Colorado Rapids Saturday, let's see what's going on in the news! The summary this week has to be: the team knows they screwed up last week, and are looking to regain their form in a hurry. In fact, it's almost as though they've been told the same thing over and over again in the locker room this week...
Over at ProSoccerTalk on Monday, Steve Davis included "Chivas USA's playoff chances" to his "Meh" list, which frankly seems to be a bit kind, especially considering the low opinion most national media folks have of the team.
And this headline in Luis Bueno's story about Chivas' playoff hopes on the league website from Thursday makes it clear that Chivas still have a chance, but they have a lot of work to do to make it happen.Shalrie Joseph was upset at his performance in his Chivas debut, according to an article from Luis Bueno on the league website from Tuesday. He says he'll get better, so don't give up on him in the red and white just yet.
Juan Pablo Angel says that the team needs to fight and get a result against Colorado, in another article from Bueno on the league website today. Certainly, Chivas fans will be looking for more spirit and better play tomorrow.
In their weekly preview video on the team's website from yesterday, Robin Fraser says he's working on tactics with the team, but that's about all I heard, because he was basically whispering his answer. And James Riley said that the team needed to keep fighting and such, but he was very subdued as well. Let's hope there's no hangover effect from this loss.
In somewhat puzzling news, Nick LaBrocca is apparently set to play the rest of the season on the right of midfield if everything shakes out, according to another article from Bueno on the league website. Maybe he'll have a renaissance in another new position, like he did through the first half of last season, but it seems like quite a risk to hope he'll suddenly play well on the flank.
In case you are interested, here are the highlights from Canada's 2-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago Wednesday in Florida, as posted on Chivas USA's website. It of course featured Ante Jazic starting as captain and playing 45 minutes. If it looks like a training video, that's because the match wasn't televised anywhere.
