Coming the same day as the announcement that Chivas USA forward Juan Agudelo has been called up to the annual January U.S. Men's National Team training camp, comes news that he is also set to train with English Premier League club West Ham United this week, according to his agent.
The training camp is set to last from January 7-29 altogether, so it is possible that he could do both this month, although the timing seems pretty curious. It is worth noting that fellow MLS player and fellow USMNT selection Graham Zusi is also training at West Ham, and is planning to join the camp in progress after his week in London is over. If Agudelo is also doing the same regiment as Zusi, it would have to be with the blessing of U.S. Men's National Team coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
You will recall that Agudelo previously had a training stint with Scottish Premier League giant Celtic this offseason, with rampant speculation that he was about to be transferred. That hasn't happened yet, and West Ham has also brought in Seattle Sounders midfielder Osvaldo Alonso on a training stint, so they may be putting these players on a de facto trial, or there may just be an arrangement between the club and MLS top brass.
Obviously, Agudelo's busy schedule should be good news for Chivas USA. Assuming he doesn't get hurt or wear down, he should be ahead of the game come the start of the season March 2, and be in great shape. Congratulations to Juan on the opportunity abroad.
