New Zealand denies wrong doing in Queretaro match cancellation

Will Fifa penalize New Zealand over Queretaro kerfuffle? - Laurence Griffiths

New Zealand Football's chief: blame lies with the promoters.

As we wrote yesterday, Liga Mx side Queretaro is filing a formal complaint against the New Zealand Football stating: "the New Zealand federation withdrew unilaterally from the commitment after formally confirming they were taking part."

Not so, says New Zealand's acting chief executive Mark Aspden. While discussions indeed took place, no contract had ever been signed. "I think they should focus on the agent, not on us," said Aspden, adding, "The IMC Group (the agent who arranged the game) may have given the Mexican club the wrong impression of how likely the game was to proceed."

New Zealand Football confirmed they have contacted Queretaro. Both sides remain disappointed that the friendly at Corregidora Stadium--which had been promoted and tickets had gone on sale--but Aspden says Queretaro team officials understand, "that it's the agent not us."

It was IMC Group, Aspden states who, ''pulled the plug on that with 48-odd hours notice.''

It's not know whether or not Queretaro will withdraw their complaint but it does appear that the situation has been resolved.

It certainly add spice to the potential World Cup qualifier between the All Whites and Mexico.
