No controversy here. Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan each scored braces and Gyasi Zardes scored and made two assists in 5-0 rout of Chivas USA at the hands of the LA Galaxy.
A win by a two goal or more margin would have given Chivas USA their first SuperClasico cup since 2007. History was indeed made however, as the five goal rout is the Galaxy's widest range of victory in the derby.
To add insult to injury, with his second goal Landon Donovan tied Jeff Cunningham as the league's all-time scoring leader.
There isn't very much positive to say. Chivas USA never threatened. Case in point, the team never attempted a shot on goal until Carlos Bocanegra's shot outside the box past the 80th minute.
Jose Luis Real's tactics and substitutions no longer have the same sheen they had a month ago. His love affair with Matthew Fondy -- who started up top today -- has yet to yield positive results.
Real burned a substitute early taking Carlos Alvarez out in favor of Eric Avila. Once down 4-0, Real's substitutions were both defensively minded. In other words, he was trying to limit the damage, not put a goal on the board.
Watch the sequence of events leading the final goal. As the Galaxy pushed the ball forward, absolutely no pressure is put on the ball. Farfan makes a lazy run at Laurent Courtois but never pressures the Frenchman. With plenty of time, Courtois had no problem chipping the ball to an unmarked Robbie Keane.
With the loss, Chivas USA has now been held scoreless for 240 minutes. During this time they have allowed ten goals.
