Chivas USA Tournament Cancelled by Promoters IMC Group

Charity tournament called off by promoters

Chivas USA was to host a friendly tournament with a portion of the proceeds will go to Mexican families who were victims of hurricanes Ingrid and Manuel. However The Goat Parade has learned it has been canceled.

Joining Chivas in this tournament would have been the New Zealand national team, Liga MX squads Querétaro FC and CD Tiburones Rojos de Veracruz, Alianza FC of El Salvador, Los Angeles Misioneros of the USL, and a mystery team, never quite determined. The Chivas U-23's would have also participated.

The tournament was set to begin on Wednesday with New Zealand versus Querétaro, and Chivas USA versus Veracruz at Citrus College in Glendora. On Saturday, October 12th, Chivas would have played against New Zealand at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

Intriguingly, New Zealand will be facing an home-and-home playoff against CONCACAF's fourth-place finisher (possibly Mexico) for a spot at next summer's World Cup. It would have been cool to see the "all whites" up close.

According to a Chivas USA team spokesperson, the promoter of the tournament, IMC Group, called off the event. It appears that despite the announcement of the tournament, tickets never went on sale and further details of the tournament were never publicly disseminated.

It is unclear if the same people were behind it, but in 2009, an announced postseason tournament for the LA Galaxy in Germany was cancelled after the promoter, IMC Group, apparently did not do their job that time. As the Galaxy explained in a statement regarding the cancelled tour: "Unfortunately, IMC Group has not performed their obligations of the agreement thus far, nor do we have faith that they will be able to do so in the future." Beyond that, there was at least one article stemming from that cancellation that claimed fans who bought tickets to see the Galaxy in Germany were not able to reach the promoter to get a full refund.
