2013 Preseason: Chivas USA 3, LA Blues 1

The Goats wracked up another preseason win Tuesday against the Blues.

Another game, another win for Chivas USA Tuesday, as they defeated their latest preseason opponent, the USL-Pro side LA Blues 3-1. In contrast to Saturday's ultra-marathon 130 minute match against Gangwon FC, today's match was a brisk 70 minutes, and featured far fewer players than any other preseason match so far.

Jose Manuel Rivera got the scoring started for Chivas quickly, as he slotted home a rebound off a saved Jose Correa shot in the 2nd minute. Correa set up the second goal, in the 9th minute, with a pass to Miller Bolanos. The goal is Bolaños' sixth of the preseason, raising hopes the Ecuadorian will be a steady contributor for the 2013 season.

The Blues got one back in the 58th minute when Victor Paredes scored off a corner kick (something that ought to concern the coaching staff heading into the regular season). But homegrown signing Marky Delgado scored the last goal of the day in the 65th minute to put the scoreline at 3-1 in favor of the Goats.

Here was the starting lineup for Chivas: Tim Melia; Walter Vilchez, Bobby Burling, Steve Purdy; Jose Manuel Rivera, Carlos Alvarez, Edgar Mejia, Emilio Orozco, Josue Soto; Miller Bolanos, Jose Correa

No new names among that group this preseason.

Chivas only used three subs today as Juan Agudelo, Daniel Antunez, and Marky Delgado entered the game in the 36th minute.

Oswaldo Minda was at the match but didn't play, so presumably his injury on Saturday was not serious. Dan Kennedy is currently in New York on a promotional tour, and the team tweeted out that Patrick McLain was out with an illness.

I'd say today's lineup had the markings of a second team, but we know that isn't necessarily the case. It looks likely that a few of these guys will be in the starting lineup for sure March 2, but it is hard to know where Chelís stands with a depth chart among this group of players.

Chivas' next preseason match is Friday in Las Vegas against the Colorado Rapids. The match should provide a good test for the Goats in their development, especially considering the substantial changes the Rapids have made in the offseason.
