Zizzo: A short stint with Chivas, but has moved on to Portland. - Victor Decolongon
Today, we check in with the speedy winger who has a found a spot on the flanks in the Rose City.
Former Chivas USA midfielder Sal Zizzo looks to have settled in Oregon with the Portland Timbers. After joining Chivas in 2010 after tearing his ACL in Germany while with Hannover, the winger made 10 appearances for the Goats, but was traded to the expansion Timbers the following offseason.
Sal Zizzo had to endure a major injury, he's amassed sixty games, and twenty six starts between Chivas and Portland in MLS. He tore his ACL again in a match against the Houston Dynamo in the 2011 season. Ironically, his next match was May 15, 2012, against the same team. Fortunately for a player going through the same devastating injury, he was ahead of schedule, playing a match roughly after seven months of recovery. He spent the preseason of the year rehabbing his injury instead of regular training with his teammates, to attempt a comeback, and make an improvement on his skills. Late in the 2012 season, he saw regular action for the Timbers, so it looks like he may finally be able to turn a corner.
Zizzo isn't a goal scorer, as he's only scored one goal in his time with Portland, but has four assists, and is generally a second half substitute when the defenders are tired. One highlight of last year is when he assisted on both goals in the Timbers 3-2 loss against the New York Red Bulls on August 19th. He had a perfect through ball pass to Darlington Nagbe at the start of the match, and then a patient floater to Bright Dike almost twenty minutes later.
