Chivas USA U16s (in blue) dominated Nomads - Alicia Rodriguez
Want to see players in Chivas USA shirts score 10 goals in a game? You should have been in San Diego last weekend.
Last weekend, Chivas USA's Development Academy teams ventured down to San Diego to play Nomads SC, and came away with full points. The eye-catching result of the weekend was the 10-0 win by Chivas' U16 squad, by far their most lopsided victory of the season.
Considering the scoreline, the U16s fired in goals early and often on Saturday. Jorge Ruiz got the scoring started in the 10th minute, followed by Alejandro Vergara in the 17th minute and a penalty by Jeffrey Quezada in the 22nd minute. Adonis Amaya scored a brace in the 40th and 42nd minutes, respectively, and the Goats were firmly in control through the first half. They kept going in the second, though, with a pair from Mark Hernandez in the 47th and 68th minutes, one from Edgar Murillo in the 62nd minute, one from Daniel Crisostomo in the 70th minute, and the capper by Tommy Fraher in the 79th minute. Quezada actually took another PK in the second half and couldn't convert, so the scoreline could have been even more lopsided. In the span of the game, two of the Nomads players received red cards, leaving them even more shorthanded and compounding their problems. Whew.
The result keeps them in 2nd place in the Southwest Division, just two points behind leaders Real Salt Lake-Arizona. Keep up the good work!
Meantime, the U18s beat Nomads U18s by the comparatively pedestrian 4-0 margin. Romario Lomeli opened the scoring in the 20th minute, followed up by a score from Ever Delatorre in the 42nd minute. Nomads had an own goal in the 53rd minute, and Armando Flores (former "Sueño" winner, and no, I don't mean Jorge Villafana) notched a goal of his own in the 72nd minute. The win leaves them in 5th place in their division, two points within Strikers - they are making up ground, but still have some ground to cover in the homestretch of the season. Still, a good result for them!
Both of the U16 and U18 teams will have a pair of home games this weekend, against the Santa Cruz Breakers and De Anza Force. Good luck, junior Goats!
