LA Blues Announce Chivas USA Goalkeeper Patrick McLain on Loan

The USL-Pro season is underway, and local side LA Blues played tonight, where they defeated Orlando City 1-0. Of particular interest to Chivas USA fans is that before the match, the Blues announced that Chivas goalkeeper Patrick McLain is now on loan to their team:

McLain, 24, is in his second season with Chivas USA, and although he has featured in reserve matches and has been on the bench multiple times for MLS and U.S. Open Cup games, has never played in a competitive match for the Goats. The loan stint could give him an opportunity to get some game minutes so he could have experience and get sharp, should Dan Kennedy and Tim Melia be unable to play.

Interestingly, the Blues have several Chivas USA connections on their current roster. Starting goalkeeper Carl Woszcynski trialed with Chivas in the 2012 preseason before McLain ended up making the team. Midfielder Rodrigo Lopez was a member of Chivas USA 2005-07, and was on trial with the club again this past preseason, but he was one of the few players who ultimately did not make the cut. And forward Chris Cortez was a member of Chivas USA for most of the 2011 season.

Chivas USA have not announced the move, but it appears to be legit as McLain already sat on the bench in a match. We'll have to see what the terms of the loan are, but in previous loans with USL-Pro clubs, MLS teams usually have an immediate recall option.

In case you are curious, the Blues play their next home match April 26, and play at Titan Stadium, so in case you can't get enough local soccer, they are always a solid option!
