Continuing the recent parade of national team news concerning Chivas USA, defender Steve Purdy has been named to El Salvador's provisional 35-man roster ahead of the Gold Cup beginning in July. The selection comes on the heels of his recent performance in a 2-1 friendly loss against Venezuela last week, so it is good to see him staying in the mix to get on the metaphorical plane for the Gold Cup, which will of course be held in the United States.
Following a cursory look at the rosters for all the participating countries, several former Chivas USA players were also named to their respective national team rosters today. Youth product and first team signing Gerson Mayen, now with Salvadoran side FAS, is also on El Salvador's roster. Additionally, defender Michael Umana, now with Saprissa, was called up to Costa Rica's provisional roster for the tournament. Former Goat Alan Gordon, now with the San Jose Earthquakes, was also named to the USMNT provisional roster.
As all of these selections are for the preliminary rosters, these players are not assured spots on their teams for the tournament just yet. The rosters are required to be cut to 23 players per team by June 27. We'll keep you posted about any developments. In the meantime, congrats to Steve!
