Well, Chivas USA are pretty active when it comes to events being reviewed by the MLS Disciplinary Committee this season. Following two suspensions on opponents of Chivas USA the last two weeks, the Goats have now gotten their first sanction of the season, as rookie midfielder Carlos Alvarez has been suspended two games and fined an undisclosed amount for "violent conduct" in Sunday's 4-0 loss against Sporting Kansas City. Alvarez kicked a ball at SKC's Peterson Joseph during a dead ball and while Joseph was lying on the ground. The kick was entirely unnecessary and very obvious, so I really can't argue with the suspension, to be honest.
Here's the video of the incident in question:
Like I said, seems fair and straightforward, really. Agree or disagree?
Alvarez has appeared in the last seven matches for Chivas, starting in five of those games, since sitting out the first two games of the year. With his enforced absence from the lineup this week against the Portland Timbers and next week against Real Salt Lake, it will be interesting to see who Chelís will use in the midfield in Alvarez's absence.
