The LA Strikers are in the midst of their USL W-League campaign, and had two matches last week, to mixed results. On Wednesday, the Strikers faced the Seattle Sounders women at home, but lost 2-1. The Sounders took a 2-0 lead when Sara Campbell and Safara Pulse scored within two minutes of each other late in the first half. New Striker Victoria Boardman attempted to get the home side back into the game with a goal in the 86th minute, but LA couldn't find the equalizer in the remaining time.
They bounced back from that loss, however, when they faced the Colorado Rapids women Friday, also at home, coming away with a 3-2 victory. The Strikers went down by two goals, but they roared back, as Ann-Marie Tangorra and Tanya Samarzich were among the goalscorers.
The results last week put the Strikers in third place in the W-League's Western Conference, behind local rival Pali Blues and the Sounders. They face the Bay Area Breeze in San Francisco this evening, followed by the return leg Sunday at Occidental College at 7:30 pm PT. If they can pick up points in these games, it should help them gain ground on the leaders and put some distance between them and the teams below them in the standings. Still, we'll see.
