Chivas USA sign forward Matthew Fondy

The Goats aren't done adding players in 2013 yet!

Chivas USA announced Friday afternoon that they have signed forward Matthew Fondy. The striker, 24, most recently played for local USL PRO club LA Blues, where he scored 10 goals in 10 games this season, leading them in scoring. You may recall that the Blues played Chivas USA in the U.S. Open Cup this year, in a game Chivas won 2-1 behind Dan Kennedy's penalty kick goal, but Fondy did not play in that game.

He has been with the Blues the past two seasons, and prior to that, he was with fellow USL PRO side Pittsburgh Riverhounds, where he scored a pair of goals in 2011. He played collegiately at UC Santa Cruz, and is a native of California. He also featured for the San Jose Earthquakes this year in the preseason and Reserve team, although he was apparently not offered a contract by that club.

Fondy will be eligible for Sunday's match against the Vancouver Whitecaps, and it will be interesting to see if he sees immediate action. His arrival is the third on the Goats' squad in just over a week, joining Bryan de la Fuente and Carlo Chueca. Whether these late arrivals in the season are getting extended auditions for 2014 or if they are in the team's plans for next season is unclear, but we'll stay on top of the developments as they arise.

Welcome aboard Matthew!
