Marky Delgado tweeted last night he will be undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. Chivas USA will play out the 2013 season minus the services of the 17-year-old homegrown player. Delgado missed Saturday's match against the Portland Timbers as well as the two team's reserves match on Sunday.
Torn meniscus surgery this week. Pretty much out for the rest of the season .— Marky Delgado (@MarkyDelgado) September 18, 2013
In 16 appearances, 13 of which were starts, Delgado had cemented a space for himself on the left wing, primarily as a left back in Jose Luis Real's 4-4-2. His swift running, passing, and energy earned him an invite to the USMNT U18 camp.
According the Mayo Clinic, some athletes are able to return to have the procedure and return the sport in two weeks. Given Delgado's youth, importance to the team and the team's expectations for the remainder of the years, there just is no reason to rush him back.
We hope for a quick and speedy recovery Marky!
