In the second transfer rumor of the day, Argentine website Pasion Paternal is reporting that forward Leandro Barrera is a loan target by Chivas USA (Spanish). The 22-year-old plays for Argentinos Juniors in that country's first division.
According to the article, Chivas have made a bid to bring Barrera on loan to the club, but Argentinos are weighing the offer and could be looking for something better from the Goats. However, they say Barrera is interested in making the move.
Described as a speedy left-footed player also able to play on the wing, Barrera has played 42 league matches for Argentinos since making his debut in 2010, scoring three goals.
If he did indeed come to Chivas, he would not only play with compatriot Mauro Rosales, but he would be following the lead of former Argentinos teammate Matias Laba, who was signed as a young Designated Player by Toronto FC last year. However, TFC have too many DPs at the moment and are looking to offload Laba, so maybe that could prove to be a cautionary tale for Barrera.
When asked for comment about the report, Chivas USA issued the customary response: "Chivas USA will not comment on any player who is not an official member of the club's roster."
It must be stressed that this report is very much a rumor, so we'll have to see if there are any more developments regarding Barrera and Chivas. Of course, we'll keep you posted on any new details.
