10 seasons and counting: Chivas USA to get a stadium someday, but stuck in StubHub Center for now

The wait will be hard, but hopefully it will be worth it.

One of the biggest questions surrounding Chivas USA's future is where the team will reside beyond this year. Based on the comments from MLS Commissioner Don Garber yesterday, the league is completely committed to keeping the team in Los Angeles. For those who have stuck with this team through thick and thin, that is terrific news indeed, possibly the best possible outcome which in other cases might be considered a big mess.

On a more particular level, however, we must weigh the good news and bad news about where in particular the team will actually play. Every single year I've seriously covered this team, I've heard rumblings that the team was going to leave the LA Galaxy's stadium, where the Goats have played every year of their existence, and yet every year they remain as tenants, in the literal shadows of their local rival.

Every year, they've returned to the Galaxy stadium, and it becomes more and more galling each time. While by the end many Chivas fans didn't want to really line Jorge Vergara's pockets, it was equally bad paying for concessions and parking at a stadium owned by the hated rivals, knowing the money would end up strengthening them.

The release about the league's purchase of Chivas USA from the Vergaras included the note that the team will play in the Galaxy's stadium once again in 2014, which isn't news, since we already knew that was going to happen.

The good news in all of this? The league said they are committed to building a stadium in LA for the club. Fans have waited patiently for a decade for their club to get a home of their own. Considering all the time Vergara (and the original co-owners, the Cue brothers, if we're honest) spent spinning their wheels, promising that a new stadium was coming soon, this was perhaps the best news possible. And when the team gets that stadium, then it will be clear: this club will stay in Los Angeles.

But the bad news? In the meantime, it's back to the stadium in Carson. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine facility. But the fact that it's not Chivas' home is what's wrong with it from the Goats' perspective.

While I understand that finding a new owner for the team probably won't happen overnight, Garber conceded during the conference call yesterday that the team could remain in the Galaxy's stadium beyond this season if necessary.

Perhaps that's not a surprise. But on a week where the entire history of Chivas USA was dramatically altered, one expects for the better, having to make that trek to Carson to play in the local rival's stadium for yet another season, and maybe more is, for lack of a better term, a bummer.

Still, if that stadium we've heard so much about comes to fruition, we'll no longer be the laughingstock of the league and can really take pride in building a quality club, on and off the field. Patience will be hard, but if we finally get our wish, it will be worthwhile.
