Update: Phoenix FC Wolves gets new ownership, rebrands to Arizona United SC

Looks like that CUSA reserve game will go ahead as planned.

An update on Wednesday's story about USL PRO side Phoenix FC Wolves ownership situation: the franchise rights of the team have been transferred to new owners, who announced Thursday that the team will be rebranded to Arizona United SC.

The league also announced that the rebranded team will be taking over Phoenix FC's schedule for the upcoming 2014 USL PRO season, which begins at the end of the month.

Though it is clear that there are still details to be ironed out, it appears the new club will play Chivas USA's reserves May 24, as part of the MLS-USL partnership. Prior to the name and ownership change, the game was scheduled to be held at Phoenix FC's stadium in Peoria, Ariz. According to the news about the changes, the new owners are hoping to reach an agreement with the City of Peoria to play in the same venue.

Here's hoping the team, which is much newer than Chivas USA (they have only played one season to date), has turned a corner and will gain some traction under the new owner (does that ring a bell?).
