But the independent panel (one person each from U.S. Soccer, the Canadian Soccer Association, and the Professional Referees Association) that reviews such appeals did not unanimously rule to overturn Pelletieri's red card, and therefore the appeal was denied, the league announced Thursday.
What does this mean? Pelletieri will be suspended for Saturday's match against FC Dallas. On the bright side, he'll be available following that, as there was no additional punishment levied on the player by the MLS Disciplinary Committee.
Expect Daniel Fragoso to get his first career MLS start against FC Dallas, playing as a defensive midfielder alongside Oswaldo Minda. It appears Cabrera's decision to sign both Pelletieri and Fragoso prior to the season was pretty smart.
