I've been pretty open in my feelings about former Chivas USA midfielder Miller Bolaños. I think he had the talent to become a star in MLS, and his abrupt departure last year was quite disappointing. Whether the constant drama at the club drove him out, or the player had some desire to cut bait and go back to Ecuador is unclear. But imagine if he was still on the team this year -- he could be yet another weapon for Chivas' attack.
Still, that's in the past, and Bolaños is still with Emelec, the club with whom he won an Ecuadorian Primera title last year. On Sunday, the 23-year-old scored his second goal of the season, against his old club LDU Quito. In a dominant 3-0 win, Bolaños notched the second goal of the match, in the 25th minute.
Here's video of the goal:
The win helps keep Emelec out in front in the league race, as they sit atop the standings, three points ahead of Independiente del Valle with two games in hand.
Bolaños has been a regular contributor this season, starting five games and coming off the bench once in league play, and has started two Copa Libertadores matches. The Ecuadorian side is currently in second place in their Copa Lib group, which is a pretty tough one, with Mexico's Leon, Brazilian side Flamengo, and Bolivian team Bolivar. They're in good position to advance now, but advancement isn't assured yet.
Here's hoping Miller can keep scoring and fulfill the potential that he's long held.
