Chivas USA sign midfielder Matt Dunn

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Goats add another option in the midfield.

Chivas USA made the recent report official on Thursday, announcing that they have signed midfielder Matthew Dunn. MLSsoccer.com reports that Chivas obtained Dunn's rights through a waiver draft. It is unclear if that means Chivas are ineligible for future waiver drafts this year as a result.

Dunn, 20, played under current CUSA coach Wilmer Cabrera with the U-17 USMNT. A youth product of German side FC Cologne and a pro with Serbian team OFK Beograd, Dunn last played collegiately (though not in the NCAA system) for the University of Maine-Fort Kent.

At the moment, Dunn's addition looks like depth for the current Chivas USA squad, though Cabrera has shown with another former U-17 US international, Eriq Zavaleta, that he's not afraid to thrust players he is familiar with in the limelight. And given Chivas' mounting injury woes, Dunn may get a chance to see first team action sooner than we may expect. Still, given his relative obscurity on this side of the Atlantic, we'll have to see what he can provide, as well as what position in the midfield is his best.
