Chivas USA defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste out 8 weeks after undergoing surgery

The defender's sports hernia could not be maintained any longer.

Some unfortunate news on this Thursday for Chivas USA fans. The club announced today that defender Andrew Jean-Baptiste has undergone surgery to repair a sports hernia, and will be out an estimated eight weeks.

Jean-Baptiste, in his first season with Chivas, has made three starts, all last month, at left back following an injury to incumbent starter Tony Lochhead. AJB has dealt with injury problems of his own all season, which makes sense because this is how sports hernias work...they linger and players attempt to play through them, often succeeding at a reduced level for months at a time.

Along with Jean-Baptiste, Chivas announced that midfielder Thomas McNamara had surgery on his torn ACL, and estimated he would miss eight months, meaning he'll be out for the rest of the season, barring a very speedy recovery/unlikely CUSA MLS Cup run.

We wish a speedy recovery to both players.
