Report: Chivas USA midfielder Agustin Pelletieri linked to move back to Argentina, but may stay in U.S.

After initial transfer chatter, it appears Pelletieri may be staying put.

Reports out of Argentina last week had it that Chivas USA midfielder Agustin Pelletieri could be headed back to his native country. But since then, indications are that he could be staying with the Goats after all.

Last Wednesday, Argentine outlet Olé reported that Pelletieri was angling for a move back to South America, and was on the radar of Belgrano (Spanish).

Two days later, Rosario3.com reported that Pelletieri was being looked at by a different Argentine team, Rosario Central (Spanish).

Initially, it seemed quite possible that Pelletieri could be on his way, as he sat out Chivas USA's midweek game against the San Jose Earthquakes last week. But he was back in the lineup against the Montreal Impact on Saturday, so perhaps CUSA coach Wilmer Cabrera was simply giving the defensive midfielder a rest. In all, he's featured in 14 of CUSA's 17 league games this season.

And subsequent reports have it that Pelletieri wants to stay in MLS. La Capital de Rosario reported on Saturday that Pelletieri wants to stay in the U.S. "at least six more months" (Spanish). Rosario3.com reported the same on Tuesday, that Pelletieri wanted to stay with the Goats (Spanish).

So it looks like the 32-year-old won't join the list of international acquisitions in the offseason that will make a hasty retreat from Chivas USA. Of course, the transfer window is just opening and plenty can happen over the coming weeks, but Pelletieri has settled in well this season and will probably remain a fixture in midfield as long as he's part of the team.
