U.S. Open Cup recaps/previews on The Guardian

The Guardian ran a feature today featuring recaps and previews for the eight teams remaining in the U.S. Open Cup. Chivas USA gets some attention, of course (full disclosure: I wrote that part). The article is particularly useful for the three lower division teams left in the tournament, including Chivas' upcoming opponent, the Charlotte Eagles.

Talking Goats Podcast: Seattle Draw, and U.S Open Cup Preview

Hi folks! Thanks to the magic of technology and Matt's quick work, the latest edition of Talking Goats is up in the fastest time ever! We just recorded it this afternoon, and it may take a couple hours for it to make its way to iTunes, but you can get it on the tumblr,, right now! We discuss the draw against the Seattle Sounders Saturday, and offer a quick preview of tonight's U.S. Open Cup match against the Ventura County Fusion. Kick off is at 7 pm, so you have a little time to listen before the game starts (or you could listen later in the week, no pressure). Hope you enjoy the show, and let us know if you have any feedback!

Agudelo cut from US MNT

Juan Agudelo has been trimmed from the USMNT roster in Orlando. Steve Davis of cites Agudelo's removal due more to recovery and lack of playing time: Agudelo was a victim of injury, to some extent. Hurt back in the Olympic qualifying effort in late March, he returned to the field just two weeks ago. That’s hardly enough time to get into the kind of international-level shape that Klinsmann has stressed. Either way, this will give Agudelo a chance to get fit and get established at his new club address, Chivas USA. No word yet if Agudelo will be in the lineup this weekend. But regardless, barring injury it looks like Agudelo will be with Chivas this summer. Klinsmann is excited about Agudelo's prospects about the recent trade: "We have Juan Agudelo coming in after a difficult first part of the season for him, not qualifying for the Olympics (with the U23s), struggling with an injury, and now with the trade to Chivas USA that we hope gives him a lift because he couldn’t pass by Thierry Henry and Kenny Cooper at the Red Bulls ...He has an opportunity now, and we want him to grab it and make clear to everyone that he deserves to be a starter no matter where he plays."

Talking Goats Podcast: Galaxy Win, Red Bulls Draw, and Gavin's Mustache

The latest episode of the Talking Goats podcast is now available! With a midweek match, we moved the schedule around a bit, but we had a chance to talk about the last two matches, the Galaxy win and NYRB draw. We also preview the upcoming match against the Sounders, and ponder about the source of fake MLS accounts on twitter. And we do it all in less than an hour! You can also find the show in other formats on the tumblr: Enjoy!

Talking Goats Podcast: Quakes Draw, (Premature) Trade Talk, and Previewing the Clasico

This week's podcast is out! Matt and Alicia recorded the podcast before today's double trade, so while we discuss the rumors from earlier in the week, there's still some decent stuff there, if I do say so myself. We also recap the San Jose draw and preview the upcoming Galaxy match. Get ready for the game by checking out the pod!!

Profile on Chivas USA Fandom in The Guardian

Graham Parker writes a terrific feature on Chivas USA and profiles some of the Union Ultras in The Guardian from today. Disclosure: features a quote from yours truly, but even discounting that, I think it is well worth a read. It's nice to see an international profile of the team, and also a positive assessment that doesn't just rehash the same old tired talking points. Be sure to check it out!

Talking Goats Podcast: Chicago Loss, San Jose Preview, and an Interview with Robert Jonas

In the latest episode of the Talking Goats podcast, Matt and I discuss the bummer loss last weekend to the Fire, but also take heart in the great atmosphere at the match. Matt welcomes Quakes writer Robert Jonas for an interview ahead of the upcoming match against San Jose, and we offer a preview. As ever, please spread the word about the show and if you would review the show on iTunes, that would be fantastic! RSS feed y mas can be found on

Talking Goats Podcast: MLS & female fans, considering fixes for Chivas USA, and looking ahead to the Chicago Fire

The latest episode of Talking Goats is available! Matt and I discuss the gender debates that have spread throughout MLS the past couple of days, (briefly) recap the Colorado match, talk about players and ways to try and fix Chivas USA's recent scoring woes, and look ahead to Friday's match with the Chicago Fire. Listen to this episode, tell your friends about the show, and keep spreading the word! As always, you can find the RSS feed and Matt's solid observations over at the show's tumblr: Enjoy!
